Opening of School of Miracles #29

On February 8, 2011 we celebrated the ribbon cutting of a new school in La Cienaga, Patzun, Guatemala. These photos show the sequence of the day – from the rough drive over mountainous roads in a 4 wheel drive pick up truck, to our greeting at the school by shy children, the village elders pride in building this school with their own hands, the children receiving a backpack, school supplies, a warm knit hat (it is cold at 8,000′ elevation), and a toy they could select. Then, it was on to the meal, the tour of the facilities, including latrines and hand wash sink, and lots of happy people. The kids were so welcoming, no more shyness, and lots of smiles, despite the many runny noses and cold, dusty wind. A day to remember.
